First of all, it's not a series 4!!!  It has nothing to do with the series
1-3.  It is an XJ40 and only an XJ40.  

Now that is out of the way<g> let's get back to the question.  The external
chrome nut is only for the antenna mast.  The top of the antenna is help in
the body by the rubber grommet in the fender, it is a press fit only.
When putting the antenna back in be sure to hook up the ground strap to the
antenna before mounting the antenna, it makes it much easier.
