Peter, This sound could be coming from a fractured converter drive plate, which is worth investigating, because if it shatters while your accelerating "un-economically" it'll unload the motor and there'll be bits of V12 all over the road! I've had a fractured drive plate on a Ford, and it was due to a badly fitted transmission, running out of alignment and fatiguing the plate until it cracked. > Lately I have started to get a light "metallic clapping sound" from the > engine in my 1983 Daimler Double Six.
