TH400 Jaguar application

After several posts to the list, and some very helpful answers, I still am
having difficulty understanding my transmission problems. I picked up a copy
of Ron Sessions TH400 book, and gained some enlightenment. While it is true
that the Jaguar Turbo 400 is a GM unit with a different bell housing, this
is a bit simplistic.

Some parts, such as valve bodies, governors and vacuum modulators are
specific to individual transmission calibrations. The Jaguar V12 application
is the only application listed with the ZV calibration code.

At heavy throttle my XJ-S H.E. currently shifts into 2nd at 20 mph and into
3rd at 40 mph, compared to factory specs of 45 mph for 2nd and 60 mph for
3rd. The modulator only allows adjustment of 5-10 mph. The dpo had the
transmission rebuilt by an expensive speciality shop, who did install a high
performance sprag without the dpo's knowledge. At this point it is my best
guess that they also replaced one or more of the calibrated parts with non
ZV calibration parts. Does anyone know the specifications (part numbers) for
the ZV calibration?

My second question is about performance modifications. John Kilgore, in
Burbank, has suggested a TH350 torque converter. Apparently this converter
has a lower stall speed at 1900 rpm, but better torque multiplication and
less slippage when cruising. While this is in contradiction to the
suggestions in Kirby's book, it does seem to have the advantage of more
torque with less heat and perhaps even a slight improvement in fuel economy.
I plan to combine this with John's 2.75:1 gear ratio modification and a
shift kit to reduce shift slippage. Again, I am expecting the best of both
worlds, crisper shifts and reduced clutch wear. Any comments/suggestion on
this will be welcomed.

Michael

P.S. Chad, I appreciate your response to my last post. I tried to e-mail
you an answer but it did not go through.
