Gasoline is a mixture of many, many compounds. Fuel degradation, as I understand it, is caused by the lighter and/or more volatile components evaporating off. If you let it sit long enough, most of the "good" stuff evaporates out and you are left with the base varnish. The mixture; the percentage of light stuff, varies by ambient conditions, location, and expected use. The light stuff is needed for it's quick flash; such as for easy cold starting of a low compression street engines during a northern winter. Based on this simplistic, and possibly inaccurate understanding.... Is there anyone that can explain to me the how, what, and why of these "fuel stabilizers"? Randy K.
