[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Trip Computer
I have noticed with the Trip Computer on my 88 XJ-S that if the majority of my driving in highway driving, that the odometer and the trip computer very closely match. If the majority of my driving is stop & go city, the trip computer is less then the odometer. I also believe the fuel used is about the same. When you are comparing actual fuel consumption to the computer, are you completely sure that you topped off the tank to the same exact level as it was when you started off? Depending on the pump, temperatures, etc. , I can squeeze in 1 - 3 gallons after the gas pump shuts off for the first time, depending on how much pressure the pump is exerting at that time, how deep I have the nozzle in the tank & other factors come into play. When I want to do this kind of checking, I normally fill the tank until it starts to come back out & then replace the gas cap. That way I am SURE the level is the same. As both the trip computer & odometer are electronic ( even if mechanical ) have you verified which one is more correct ? ( as was mentioned to me on this list last year ) John Himes 88 XJ-S 101K Miles :-) Follow-Ups:
