I used a conventional hoist to lift my engine and GM400 out of the car. The hoist was clearly loaded, but not threatened with failure. It has several ways to assemble it, with varying lifting capacities marked for each; I avoided the longest arm configuration, keeping to the ones labelled 1/2 ton or more. Rolling the damn thing was another problem. Once it clears the car, you've gotta roll one or the other, and the little steel wheels on the hoist don't roll well on a concrete floor with that much weight on them. Worse, the CG is VERY high at that point, so if one wheel hits a stone and stops while rolling the whole shebang is likely to fall over. If I had planned better, I would have arranged things so the CAR could be rolled away, and the hoist lowered to a more reasonable position prior to rolling. -- Kirbert | If anything is to be accomplished, | some rules must be broken. | - Palm's Postulate Follow-Ups:
