The XJR was already sold, but I did get a chance to drive the 4.0L 5-speed. I was quite interested, since the lack of a manual transmission is the one thing that really bothers me about my XJ-S. The comparison between the '93 6 cyl/5-spd and my '88 V-12/slush box is interesting. I had assumed that the 4.0 would handle a bit better with less weight up front, but the ride and handling were very similar. The 5 speed certainly helps the car on initial acceleration, but the six is certainly missing the turbine smoothness of the V-12. The biggest difference was in high speed acceleration, say from 50 to 70, as you would require when passing (overtaking). The six just doesn't have the reserve that the twelve has at cruising speeds. I guess I just need to figure out how to get that 5 speed into my XJ-S. -- ----------------------------------------------------------- Mike Cogswell mcogswel@mnsinc.com '74 E-Type OTS '88 XJ-S Convertible (Hess&Eisenhardt) ----------------------------------------------------------- References:
