The only aluminum I know of in an E-type, granted, a series I E-type, are the three belly pans under the radiator, battery, and oil filter. There is no aluminum on any of the body panels, unless you have one of the lightweight E-types, in which case lucky you, and I am VERY envious. :-) Seriously, you should be able to do a full chemical strip of the body without any problems. I did this about 8 years ago without any problems, even the lead filler was left untouched, but any "bondo" or other body filler will have to be completely removed, as the chemicals will deteriorate it beyond usability. When I did mine, I found a couple of factory dents that were very expertly filled using just primer, and one of them was fairly deep. Be carefull around the rear lights, as even the factory pilled the filler thick here to get the curves right to fit the light housings. When you get the car repainted, be sure to supply the paint shop with the running lights and bumpers to ensure they get the curves right again.
