I have had to replace a broken antenna extend/retract cable in my Jags several times. This can be done with careful attention to the order in which the various nuts, washers, covers, springs, coils ring, etc., are disassembled/reassembled on the motor drive unit. While Kirby had the good suggestion of using grass string cutter string for the cable, it did not work because it lacked sufficient strength and diameter when the antenna was extended. This lead to a jumbled, jammed clump of plastic string in the motor. I also tried PTFE (Teflon), but it quickly failed due to the repeated flexing. Ultimately, I used 0.125 in. flexible polyethylene rod purchased from a local valve supply company. This has worked without problems. Note that the original extend/retract cable has a small hole in the center, i.e., it is VERY thick-walled tubing vs. flexible rod. Having said all this, I would likely just buy an aftermarket unit from J.C. Whitney, $59, if you want the remote motor location or others for ~$40 with the motor attached to the antenna wand since the repair of the Jag unit takes several hours.
