[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Oil level guage
The Holy^H^H^Haynes Renault manual says: 2 The guage is controlled by an electronic circuit located in the instrument panel which receives information from a sensor located in the sump. The sensor contains a high resistance wire whose thermal conductivity alters according to it depth of immersion in the oil. No details are given of the "electronic circuit" and fault diagnosis is by substitution. My guage works very intermitently, both level and pressure, so I needed to look at it anyway. I'll try to locate the circuit and see if it can be replicated or removed as a unit. I already know a number of Renault breakers that should be able to supply a second hand unit for experimentation. Failing that, I would be happy with just an indicator that showed low, ok, high. Would this be posible with a few fixed resistors and some wires at the appropriate points on the dip-stick or do I need some electronics to make sense of the resistance of oil?
