I've found that Bosch stadnard plugs do not perform quite as well as Champions or NGK, but are better than most common American plugs. I have, however, never had any success with their platinum plugs. If the engine is running well, they don't seem to make any improvement, and if the engine is not well, they foul easily and are not cleanable. I pretty much toss them one sight. >My dealer said the problem was the vacuum servo. Sure enough, I got 13.8 volts when I tried to engage >the cruise and zero when I hit the brake or turned the main switch off. My This is a good sign. It means the power, set, and brake switches are all working. You only get voltage to the servo when the system is active. >guess is that one leg energizes the a solenoid that allows vacuum into (out >of?) the bellows while the other leg vents to atmosphere when set speed is Not quite. One solenoid is pure a vent, open or closed. The other solenoid is a double action, vent or vacuum. The system power comes in on the center leg, attached to both solenoids. The other side of the vent solenoid is connect directly to ground. As long as the system is active, power applied, this solenoid is closed. the other side of the second solenoid is connected to the ECU. The ECU pulses this line to ground, alternating the solenoid between vent and vacuum. It varies the accuation amount by varying the duty cycle of this pulse. This is the solenoid that fails, as it is constantly fluttering. >Since the dealer wants $400 for a new servo, I have to fix this thing. Those of us not locked in to the Jag parts distributing system, i.e. the independents, have an alternate source for this servos, plus we can get the bellows as a seperate service item. They still aren't cheap, as they come through a different British car parts network (RR!), but the servo is about half what Jag wants. > >Mark Revels >85 XJ6 Randy K. Wilson randy@taylor.infi.net
