Hi everyone, Well, I finally broke down and took my car (89 VDP) into an Independent Jag shop to have the humming noise fixed in the rear (not the common wheel bearing noise). Three days later, I get a call telling me that its going to cost $800 to fix it. All they want to do is remove the diff and replace the four bearings and reinstall, so not really a diff rebuild. Well, a little ticked off for the cost of JUST replacing bearings, I called around and looked for a rebuilt differential from a few places. I called Jag Services ($899), the dealer (around $875), and some other places, plus need to veryify their limited slip.. Seems this is the better way to go, get the rebuilt differential, and just have them install it. Hopefully, I won't have any problems with it again, and I get a warranty. Plus, who says that just replacing the bearings will fix it, the gears and clutches can/will go too, then I'm out over $800 plus the new diff. Well, I'm leaning towards buying it from the jag dealer. I would like to know any comments anyone has about this. Also, how much is a fair price to remove and install the differential (labor only)? Is it a big job, or something I can handle myself (like the rear shock upgrade)? Anything else I should change in the process? Thanks
