The good news, and the bad news:

As my 'S' Type is now in pieces, I am well placed to help you out.  The third
anchorage point is roughly where you were looking, probably hidden under the
trim.  You should be able to find the nut under the rear wheel arch.  Mine has a
plug in it.

That was the good news - now the bad news..........

Rust !

When I went to have a look I found that the stiffening around this 'third'
anchorage point was badly rusted and there was a small hole in the wheel arch.
The nut has now fallen to the floor !!!

Just as well I've bought a MiG welder!!
