This suggests that the high stall converter > would have no effect unless I raise the shift points. The shift points are primarily determined by the centrifugal governer driven by the output shaft. That means the shift points correspond to road speed instead of RPM. If you have a converter with a flash speed of X, then the engine should get to X RPM shortly after you nail the accelerator pedal and stay > X until the 1-2 shift occurs (actually normally till you let off the throttle). Incidentally, the 1-2 shift under full-throttle and with the kickdown engaged is supposed to occur around 55mph which should correspond to something like 5000rpm. Without kickdown and under heavy throttle it should be near 45mph, and under light throttle 5-10 mph which would of course be way below stall speed. Your shift point of 22-2300 rpm sounds like a transmission problem to me. Thomas E. Alberts
