My 67 Daimler v8 250 clock, which is integral to the speedo, was inoperative and the fault was the internal rectifier, which is a small disc which looks a lot like a watch battery. It is held in palce by spring contacts and can be removed and reversed depending on whether the car in question ahs a negative or positive ground system. I soldered a small Radio Shack axial lead diode in its place and voila! Tick-tick-tick. Keeps good time too. Quoting the Daimler service manual: Important The electric time clock, incorporates a rectifier. If at any time the clock is removed for servicing and subsequent testing on the benc, IT IS MOST IMPORTANT that the feed terminal on the back of the clock is connected to the negative side of the battery and the outer casing of the clock is positively earthed. Incorrect installation of a rectified clock to the battery will (bold print) instantly destroy the rectifier. Can somebody describe the battery they found in their clock? The clock on the XKE I just acquired today is out, too, and I'm willing to bet the rectifier is gone in this one also. They weren't very good at the semiconductor business in 1967. This clock, by the way, is a jewel inside and very delicate. It was very rewarding to see the hands start moving again.
