[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] The Aging of SU Carburetors
Greetings, The pair of HD6 carburetors on my XK motor that is in my 3.8 'S' type seem to be working correctly. I'm not sure why. They were last rebuilt in 1982. I can still balance them and set the mixtures so that I pass California tailpipe emission tests. And the car idles reasonable well. I own the Haynes SU carburetor repair manual and upon reading it I formed the opinion that many things rot and wear in the HD6. Ok, but at what rate? To things prompt me to ask this question. One, someone on the list has a set of spare SUs for the stated reason that he can install these spares when the ones on his car fail. Two, my wife is the primary driver of our 'S' Type and hates it when the car strands her somewhere. So should we be doing "preventive" maintanence on the carbs? If so, what type? Thanks Robert Paulson 1966 3.8 'S' Type (daily driver) 1965 MK ll (slowly being re-restored and driven when can)
