In a message dated 97-02-03 16:36:24 EST, Mark Budd write: << I just ordered a new set of front brake shields for my '70 OTS, and they came from SC Parts Group in the U.K.. They look great, newly pressed in steel color. Question, I have seen these either chromed or gold plated and buffed on other cars, so, what should I do with them? Could someone please tell me what their E-type has? >> Bonjoure Mark. Do they allow E-Types in Montreal? About the only chrome you will find under the bonet will be the chrome retaining nuts on the front end of the cam covers. All other metal parts are either cadmium plated, or cadmium plated with a yellow wash finish. The backing plates are definately not chromed or gold plated. The correct color is either black or gray (I'm not sure which). The front suspension was rebuilt on my 1973 (a series 3) about a dozen years ago, and all the parts were repainted. The brake backing plates are currently gray, but I think they were black before the rebuild. Maybe another jag-lover could fill you in on the color. Also, someone else asked about a color list for their vehicle (not an E-Type). Chris Harvey has written a series of books for various Jaguar models. In his E-Type book, Chris reports on the factory colors (interior and exterior) by model year. Perhaps someone can determine if he has done the same in his other books.
