Re:arcin'and sparkin'

"From: "Gregory W. Price" <gprice@mack.rt66.com>
Subject: Arcin' and Sparkin' ('85 XJ6)

I've been looking for a sputtering ignition problem for a while now,
and I've noticed that when I look at the high-tension ignition wires
in the dark with the engine running, they are crossfiring and
grounding everywhere. The plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil are all
new, and I've checked and cleaned the battery and ground connections.
Any suggestions, Oh Sages of the Net?

Greg Price"

Greg,
Arcin' and sparkin' are not normal especially for new wires and other
ignition accessories (obviously). The high voltage should make it from the
coil to the air space across the spark plug, and won't if the it can find an
easier way to ground. All the insulation is imperative to your ignition
system operating properly. Where ever it is arcing should be replaced. The
non conductor used to direct the voltage to the spark plug is faulty and
allowing it to make it to ground before the spark plug.
