Move to Browns LaneI have asked this question before but to no avail. Does anyone know what month in 1952 production of 120's was started in the new Browns Lane factory? How about beginning chassis numbers? Which was the first 120 built at the "New" factory? - JamieDFiff I suspect there's no good answer to these questions. Andrew Whyte in his book on Jaguar describes the move from Foleshill to Brown's Lane as being a gradual process throughout 1951-2, beginning with the machine shop in '51 and ending with the paint shop in the autumn of '52. Most of the departments were moved one at a time over weekends to minimize disruptions to production, and since the factories were only about two miles apart, the cars and parts were shuttled back and forth as needed. Whyte does mention that the official convention to show the facility off to dealers, suppliers, and press was November 28, 1952. - Hope this helps, Jon Schrock, 57 XK140 FHC, 65 E Type Cpe, 77 XJ12L Jamie, I recall this subject of the factory move coming up before and the best info I could find was from Andrew Whyte as quoted again. Seems like history is always a bit messier than we would like i.e. no clean cutoff dates etc. - Regards, John Elmgreen
