Testing the Coolant Temp Sensor

Testing the Coolant Temp Sensor

Doug Dwyer, Alex Cannara

With an ohm meter you can check the temp sensor for correct operation.

Resistance between terminals should be :

5.9

kilohms at

32F

2.5

68F

1.18

105F

0.60

140F

0.325

176F

You could use a pan of water on the stove and check for even changes as temp increases. A dead spot could be a problem. Also, make sure there is no continuity between each terminal and the body of the sensor itself. This info out the service manual.
