![]() How to Attach a Remote Starter SwitchIn reply to Luis Magdaleno's request about directions to add a remote starter switch. I also have an 82 XJ6-III. I recently purchased a good schematic which shows the starter relay being located on the firewall, near the center. There are three relays and a red diode unit located there. The starter relay is the largest of the three relays, and located on the left side (exhaust manifold side) of the car. It switches on power to the starter motor solenoid switch when the car is in neutral, and the key switch is turned to position 3 (start). Your remote starter switch will work, if you gently pull the large white wire with the red stripe off of terminal C4 of the starter relay and connect one of the spring clips to that wire. It goes down to the control terminal on the starter solenoid. The other spring clip on your remote switch goes to the ungrounded (+) battery terminal. The relay is then bypassed by your remote switch. Note that, in normal operation, the relay makes sure you are in neutral before engaging the starter, and without it, you can inadvertently turn the engine over with it in gear. Also, when you push the remote starter switch, that white wire will have full battery voltage on it and the spring clip can short out if allowed to touch the engine or chassis, or almost anything else. When you're done, you will need to carefully replace the white/red wire on terminal C4 of the starter relay in order to start your Jag. I hope this helps. ![]()
