Fuel Pressure Valve

Fuel Pressure Valve

Tom Wagner

I had the same problem with engine not starting and it was the pressure valve in the boot that holds fuel pressure in the injector rails. When the engine is hot the fuel pump will not start till the engine fires. Course if you have no pressure in the line, the injectors won't feed, and of course the car won't fire (catch 22). This is done by FI system to prevent a fire if it is a stuck injector causing the problem (but then you smell gas too).

Check in the boot, there is a "T" shaped, octagonal device, in the spare tire well. There are 3 lines on it. The bottom one of the two together is where the valve is. Either way you have to release the fuel pressure. I carefully remove the hose to the injector rail. If there is pressure just after shutting down the engine the valve is working, so no need try this cure (it can bleed down after a few hours though).

Take the hose off that is on the "T" carefully, there is a pretty good chance that the spring and valve will be in the hose as they are too big to go up the fuel line. Unscrew the valve and test by blowing into it. You should only be able to blow one way and that way will also have some resistance. I didn't replace mine as I recovered the spring and valve, expanded the enlarged end of the spring so it popped back in and held snugly. Been using it for 6 months now (still packing the new one though as a spare).

Tom, happily back in the sunshine on the Pacific Wet Coast
