![]() Fuel Tank Fender PlugDennis Conway asks: Just had the right side fuel tank drained on an 87XJ6 III - US. The plastic plug that covered the fuel tank drain is larger than the sheet metal opening and had to be broken in order to remove it. Seems the plug is meant to be installed from the inside of the panel - there is an upturned ridge about the circumference of the sheet metal hole. Has any one seen/found a replacement, maybe rubber, plug for this opening or am I destined to use tape? Removing the panel does not seem like a realistic choice. Remove the three quarter inch bolts in the wheel well, and five or six of the forward most screws on the lower fender (tank cover) and the plastic plug can easily be removed and replaced. The body panel does not need to be removed, it moves plenty with just a few screws removed. I feel the plug should be there to keep tank and fender corrosion to a minimum. ![]()
