Window and Other Jag Switches -- Repair Before Replacing

Anybody have any extra power window switches? I was quoted about $20 per switch, which seems kinda crazy. Can anybody help?

Ben, they are quite easy to repair if the plastic is not broken.

Just remove the switch by pulling the connector off the back, pop it out of the panel by pressing in the two plastic tabs. The rocker pops out by prying carefully with a small screwdriver and you will see two spring loaded plungers and a pair of copper switch contacts inside. Use some 600 grit or finer sandpaper to polish up the contacts and then blast the thing with a good grade of electrical contact cleaner. The stuff Radio Shack sells is fine.

Re-assemble by placing the two contacts in as you found them and align the rocker with the plungers on top. Using a small screwdriver, pry the switch body away from the rocker tabs as you press it back in. Finally, spray a bit or silicone lubricant into the contact area of the switch to help prevent contact oxidation.

I did all 8 window/sunroof oriented switches while siting in front of the TV one evening and they have been working great for the last 5 months. This option is a whole lot cheaper than replacing them and will solve the problems if the plastic parts are not broken.

Hope I helped.
