New Lists

Information about the new lists

April 2002 :

Five new lists are being created to replace the current Modern List.

This will better serve the needs of our subscribers, and fit in with some exciting new Jag-Lovers services that will be introduced soon. The new lists are as follows:

The Modern list will continue for a while during the transition while people move to the new lists; then it will be closed for posting. The archives will continue to be available, and everybody will be able to access to the 53,000+ posts that are already in the Modern archives. Posts sent to the new lists will be stored in the archives of the new lists.

All these lists will also be available as digests:

Tips for a smooth transition :

Subscribe to the new lists you wish to be on as soon as possible
Start posting your messages on these lists immediately
Do not unsubscribe to Modern just yet so that on going discussions can be carried on there until they end naturally
Since some models now supported on different lists have certain elements in common, you may want to subscribe to multiple lists especially if you are primarily interested in technical information. For instance, XK8 and XJ8 share the same drivetrain and you might benefit from both lists.

Please use our automated subscription utility to subscribe to the new list and unsubscribe from Modern. Be sure that your e-mail is set up so that you are sending mail using the same address that you want to use for your subscription -- otherwise majordomo will not process your subscription.

Remember, the subscription utility is a computer! If you do not follow the directions carefully it will cause a lot of frustration for you and the list(s) admins !

How to subscribe to the new lists :

Go to... http://www.jag-lovers.org/cgi-bin/majordomo
Enter your email address and click on go.
Select all the list you wish to join by clicking on the check boxes. When done with your selection, click on apply.
Within a few minutes, you will receive 2 email messages from the server.
- The first one, titled "Majordomo Results", is simply a confirmation that you have requested changes to your subscriptions.
- The second one, titled "Confirmation for Subscribe <list name>", will contain an authorization code which will look like :

auth 1234567 subscribe x300 youremailaddress@yourisp.com
For each of these messages ( one per list ) :
- Hit reply without changing anything to the message or
- Copy and paste the exact string you received into the BODY of a new e-mail and send it to : <majordomo@jag-lovers.org>. Please not that you should send this message in plain text format. If you do not, the command might be accepted by the server but you will receive an long list of error messages. For instructions on how to send messages in plain text, you can go to http://www.jag-lovers.org/help/listptxt.htm

That's it, you're done. You'll know everything worked out all right when your receive a message welcoming you to the list.

Need Help ?

Of course our list admin, Patsy Lockensgard, will be available to help members who are having trouble with the process. However, because we have hundreds of subscribers we would like to ask that you do your best to change your subscriptions on your own. Please note that for technical reasons admins can not change your subscription(s) for you.

The first thing you should do if you have any problem is read the confirmation instructions and check the message you sent back to make sure that you replied correctly. You can also go to the main Majordomo page

and type in your email address and check to see which list you are currently subscribed to.

Who are the new list Adminisrators ?

Patsy will continue to be listadmin for four of the new lists, Pascal Gademer will be listadmin for the new xk8 list.
