Dayton Wire WheelsFor years, the 15" wire wheels Dayton offered for Jaguar had 60 spokes. These wheels developed a bad reputation, and Dayton later introduced a 70-spoke wheel for Jaguars. The 70-spoke is supposedly much better. Also, if you have a set of 60-spoke Daytons, reportedly Dayton will make you a nice deal to trade up to the 70-spoke model. Matt Dillon sends this pic of his car with 60-spoke Dayton wire wheels: John Tompane sends this pic of his car with the 70-spoke Daytons: In this era of ever-larger diameter wheels, Tompane reports that Dayton
is keeping up: "In fact they have a very nice new wire wheel called
the LW. It has an aluminum rim instead of steel, and I just got a
set for my wife's new X300 (rather new to us, it's a '95.) Nice wheel
and it is significantly lighter and stronger the steel wheel. BTW,
I have heard of problems regarding the 17" wires as used on XK8s, but I'm
not sure whether it's the steel wheel or the LW."
