Dick Clements' Mk V is an example of the 1951 3.5L production. Originally exported to South Africa, it was repatriated in 1986. Relatively original, she can only get better! June 97 I have today managed to get the old girl today back onto her own wheels,
on terra firma and the engine running for the first time in three years.
To celebrate I thought I'd record the numbers that seem to be of interest
here and add a few further comments. Mk V Saloon RHD Export Model (the
one without Foglights!)
Bought at auction sight unseen over the 'phone by a Bentley/Rolls Royce
nut "on the look out for something different". Major work to get it through
the UK road test and lost interest in it, sold, thru an intermediary to
me in 1993 one month before I was made redundant for the second time.......
some minor work done to keep it on the road and then the brakes on two
wheels caught fire. Up on axle stands therefater until spurred on to get
it fixed by my wife promising afriend's daughter that we would make the
car availabel as her wedding car.
Condition: definitely not concours, but nothing is missing. Has a nice
patina that shows its never been pampered, but suffered from regular use
(whatever is a car for anyway?)
Originality: some trim redone. Carpets replaced at sometime. Chassi-mount fuel pump replaced by more modern SU device mounted in
small locker on LHS of boot. Modern pump has no internal filter so modern
plastic in line filter now in fuel line just befor carb distribution rail.Trafficators
replaced (but left in situ) by flashers.
Non original pattern rear lights. '60's Lucas foglights monted on front
bumper apron. Heater plumbing removed. Leaper on rad cap.
but above all, keep the car on the road and enjoy it!
