If you mean the light above the rear view mirror, it is not controlled by
the door switches, the lens swivels to turn it on and off (off in the middle).

Mine won't come on, can we compromise?  The original bulb holder has a tilt
switch to turn the light on when the lid is raised.

That appears to be normal behavior.

The interior light switch is next to the map light switch, but only turns
on the C pillar lights, not the footwell lights.  The other switches are
the door switches, plus the map light switch, plus the dome light switch
mentioned above.
