On my Lotus wheels, the factory secured the center logo cap w/ a neat
line of clear silicon on the $550 GKN alloy wheel, not trusting the
clips to hold the them during spirited driving. It's inside the wheel,
no one can see it. Tacky or not, it works. Surfaces must be spotless.
Most centers have spring clips or some-such thing around the cap so they
just snap in. Sounds like yours have broken off or lost tension over the
years.
