I got so many individual "thank you e-mails" from people in our group regarding the following very old thread that I wrote several months ago regarding XK8, that I thought I'd send a portion again to all, but especially to those who are new to the group. After describing the XKE and XJS, I said the following about XK8: "The new XK8 is a celebration of the history of Jaguar. Its XJS at heart, XKE in soul, and all Jaguar in spirit. Its new, fresh, but familiar. Its the best of Jaguar, made possible by the support of Ford, but its not American, its distinctively British. The XK8 says, "I hold the banner high from SS-100, to the D-Type, E-Type, through the legacy of the XJ-S. I am all of these cars, but none of them. I am the Jaguar of the present, and the promise of the future. I still touch the heart of those that love all that is good, pure, and special about BRITISH cars." XK8 turns heads from"soccer moms" to stock-market managers." I'd like to add that we are x-J-s lovers, and that the new car is an x-K-8. I don't see this as (that old obsolete) XJ-S versus (new and superior) XK8. They are two different cars designed for two different purposes. Regarding XK8s "bland" look-alike styling, I say this. Some great car designs grow on you in time. Consider the XJ-S!!! What a dog, most people thought, when the car came out after the XKE. It took me TEN YEARS to like the S, now, I see it's genius in design, as do we all (otherwise, get off this list!) Regardless of Coventry model, remember again "You may get there in a Benz, but you ARRIVE in a Jaguar!" XK8 is pure genius. It does not knock you over initially, but give it time. BTW, who is that guy who is testing driving an XJR in three weeks?!? Not in the USA! me-thinks not. 89 XJS Convertible 89 Vanden Plas Wayne Estrada President Richmond NET Internet Access * Web Site Development & Hosting * Web Programming "The Capital for Worldwide Communication" 1-804-740-6100 http://www.Richmond.NET References:
