[xj-s] Dead Speedo

Just finished reading Digest #219.  I also have a dead speedo, that will
suddenly come to life for a few brief seconds, then die again.  I
assumed it was some transmission gizmo that needed replacing.  How hard
is this to replace, and any suggestions where I might find one???  Also,
I loaned the car to someone who destroyed the chin spoiler on a curb. 
Is this an item that is easily replaced, and where might I purchase one?
Thanks for any help.  By the way, its amazing the number of things that
have gone wrong with my car since I discovered this web site!!!
