In the last few weeks I experienced some problems with the convertible top closing i.e. it was very slow and sticky in going up. I lubed all the joints, same problem. I looked at the hydraulic system and noticed there were some airpockets in the tubing as well as the fluid reservoir level less than max. I deduced that there was some leak in the system or some dissipation of the hydraulic fluid. I called the local dealer as well as other Jag parts dealer to find out whether I could purchase this hydraulic fluid and what is the composition of this fluid i.e. is it the same as transmission fluid. The dealer informed me that it is only available at Jag dealers in 5 gallon drums. Realizing I couldn't buy this in the open market the dealer added the fluid and informed me I have a slow leak in the hydraulic system despite the fact that the convertible top system is a closed system. I have the following questions: a) Do you know what type of fluid this is? or at least a good substitute? b) Could I buy it somewhere? c) Can I fill this reservoir myself, or do I need special tools? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
