To Michael Aiken's question : yes we use snow tyres. Tried two Canadian winter with the Pirelli 600's when they were new (this works with other cars like Volvo 850 and GMC Safari), but the XJS is a real pig in the snow. When applying the breaks it continues strait just as if it was on ice, or worse, it does a 180 unless a snowbank is in the way. After a lot of research ( 2 local Jag dealers could or would not recommend a make) I ended up with a set of Finnish made Nokia 205 65 15 M+S. The car became safe to drive in the winter, a bit more road noise, and if it was not for the soft compound which wears more easily, we would be tempted to keep them on year round. I know, the recommended size for winter tyres is 215 65 15, but this is what I could find for reasonable $ (C$ 105 apiece). For one winter I had these mounted on the orig ABS mesh type wheels (which take 235 60 15), then I found a set of Xjs rims with the 5 fan design from the late 70's early 80's ($100 for the set). Answer to Peter Cohen's: these early XJS wheels fit perfectly my 89 ABS car, and also confirmed the fit by a Jag mechanic. Now I am looking to buy summer tyres again ( the side wall of the P600's is cracked and the handling is poor although lots of tread left ): re Kirbert's suggestion of Dunlop SP Sport - they are moving out of the Cdn market, and the 235 60 was not available anyway. There seem to be a lot of new tyre technology out there, would be nice to take advantage of it without paying the premium for the big labels. Anybody out there following the same tracks? Maybe I'll wait until I get to move to Florida. Lee Opausky
