[xj-s] RE: Keyless entry

Several years ago I installed a remote starter with keyless entry into my 84
XJ-S. I got it from JC Whitney. It took about three hours to install. It
has worked fine. Working from memory I believe you connect the lock/unlock
output from the module to the door lock relays. I believe they are located
in the right footwell just forward of the door. One relay is used to lock,
the other to unlock. Simply splice the appropriate wire to the primary of
the relay. I don't think you can easily use a remote starter on your
vintage car. They want to be installed on fuel injected vehicles. (Yours
is not fuel injected is it?) I've thought about installing one on a non
injected vehicle. It would probably require a means to "prime" the engine
much as when you depress the accelerator before starting. Maybe a solenoid
with necessary circuitry could be used. As to the trunk, Kirby's book is
the place to start that project.

Good luck

Dave
