History, 1990 XJS literally pouring oil out the slot in the bell housing. Sandwich plate out and baffles, rear main bearing cap removed and what I have is the newer style, one peice seal. Confirming the quote from Phil Bates in Kirbys book. What's really unusual is that the seal has "popped" out of place and the oil had been coming from around the outside of the seal. I manouvered the seal around and it seems like it will go back in, so what I'm going to do is, move the seal into it's popped out position and use the sneaky pete to pull some lint free rag strips through the seal slot till it's clean. Then I'm going to rotate the seal and clean it with lint free rags as well. Then I'm going to apply the white silicon to the seal, rotating it as I apply it and slip it back into place then after re- filling the sealant grooves in the bearing/seal block torque it back down. If it dosn't work I guess I'll have to pull the trans and flywheel and fit a new one. The next thing is to find out why there was so much presure in the engine to pop it out. The PCV on the left side air cleaner seems fine, but I'm going to replace it anyway. The vent from the block is really clean and free flowing. There and electrically controlled valve like a PCV valve on the right air cleaner but I don't know what it does, any clues? Kevin Sisterson stablemates@msn.com
