[xj-s] A/C:Carefull what you post..EPA might be listening

Hi group,
I had posted a question about the consequences of having had a well
intentioned mechanic put R134 into my R12 a/c system. Someone answered
that I should be carefull what I post. I was in the process of thanking
them for the warning when I pressed the wrong button and somehow
erased evrything.

I didn't think the rest of the saga was worth posting, but since I'm here..
Don't ever ever ever!!! let someone talk you into doing this.
The a/c worked for about 1 day. I then took it to 2 shops, neither of
which would touch it. Apparently there are different types of machines
to evac and refill the a/c. One for R12 and another for R134 and
each has different fittings for hook up. Since my fittings were for
R12 but I had the wrong gas the shops couldn't use either machine.
I then went back to the original place and had the 134 removed and
R12 put back in. No luck, the compressor was damaged (took 1 day and
about 70miles). I am now looking at a $700 job from what started as
a leak in a 50cent valve.

 Walter

PS If anyone from the EPA is lurking around...
