Thanks for the tip! Also, welcome to the list!

This is a major job, as the pipe to the oil cooler from the filter housing
is clamped to the engine underneath the exhaust manifold; I believe the
power steering pump and cooler have to come out for access, as well as the
return fuel pipe.

In dealing with the new Australian law that requires car engines to be
leak-free (Jaguar?! Leak-free?!) I applied a temporary (?) solution to the
same problem. After removing the oil filter for access, I cleaned the
vertical tube with the leaking O-rings and tightly wrapped it between the
aluminium houses with string liberally coated in blue RTV silicon sealant.
This works fine because there is very little pressure (it's the return pipe
to the sump) and the restricted space between the housings can be filled
with maybe three layers of ...er... fibre reinforced silicon. Give it 24
hours to set before starting the engine.

I know, this is a "shade-tre garage" solution -- but it can control the
leak until the next engine overhaul. I got the idea from a spare oil filter
housing that I looked at to analyse the problem and its cure. Somebody had
coated that tube with white silicon some time in the distant past, and it
was still intact.
