[xj-s] Re: Texas Heat...

This is Jim Wood again - just put the combination of water to coolant
that's suggested by Jaguar - change it for Sure twice a year as the
seasons change hot/cold/hot etc. - keep your eye on the temp gauge and IF
you see something Change later on or get worse - get to a mechanic and
check out your thermostat - hoses - timing - drips - just the Same Usual
things you'd look for on Most cars and act accordingly - AND - ENJOY
driving/owning your great new car - a Jaguar ... !!!

DON'T Just Worry about it - Enjoy it - Drive it - Hey do what Most of us
do - LOVE it!

Do get the front spoiler - she'll run cooler - She'll like you better
too!

Good Luck,
Jim Wood

This is Rory, from Dallas, posting ('88 XJ-S):

Well, I live in Dallas, which, temperature-wise, only seems to be
about sixteen miles outside of purgatory <grin>, and I'm very happy
with the way the new purchase ('88 XJ-S V12) seems to drive in the
Texas heat. I'm especially ...no... totally impressed with the way the
car seems to keep cool in the heat, in traffic, *WITH* the air cond. on.
In my 4-cyl. Ford Ranger, for example, I could watch the temp gauge
rise in traffic. This doesn't seem to be the case with the XJ-S.

And... took it out with the local British Car Owners Group, last weekend,
on a liesurely, 100-mile trip each way (Mesquite to Canton via rural
highways, parked under trees on a fruit farm, picked berries, beer, and
peaches, picnic, and then drove back on the Interstate). The car was
great, although tooling along at 50-60mph was definitely below its
cruising speed (my car seems perfectly at home at 80mph... but
I am not a speed demon, and am not wanting to crunch any metal
anytime soon... although it hit 131mph, for the record. It seems to have
great get-up-and-go power all the way, even in the 120's... but, right at
131MPH it seems to just stop, not like its topping out. Is this that
legendary
"fuel pump chip" that some guys around here talk about, or is this
actually
the top speed with all parts considered? I dunno... and for that matter,
like
who's going to be able to drive at that speed, anyway?). All the while,
the temperature never became a problem.

I am afraid, though, of what I'm *forgetting* to check. I'm new to
Jags...
what *SHOULD* I be looking out for, EACH WEEK/ EACH DAY?

Thanks... I'm running WITHOUT the front spoiler, now. I like the look of
the
front, without it, but if it's recommended, I'll definitely pay the money
and
put a new one on there. And, SICP was actually HIGHER than my local
Jag mechanic for the spoiler parts.
