It is my understanding that the old Freon (CFC-12) is available only in limited quantities in the US, manufacture being stopped last year. CFC-12 is replaced by HFC-134a which is semi-compatible with CFC-12, that is, you can use some but not all of the old components without loosing too much efficiency. I further understand that CFC-12 (freon) is manufactured in other counties under the Brazilian Protocol (?) which will gradually phase out freon production in the world. george glite@eos.net |
