BJ, Recommended to me was the method of very fine emery cloth wrapped around a stiff, flat piece of wood or a hard rubber sanding block. Careful not to 'cup' the sanding block or you'll round off the rib edges. Follow that up with Mother's brand metal polish, again on a stiff board so you keep the rib edges 'sharp'. Worked for me. If the paint is really thick, I guess a power sander as you describe would work, I'd be concerned about the accidental slip&gouge! My question is how do I remove the paint to reveal the ribbed pattern? I have tried 400 grit and 240 grit wet/dry sandpaper, and also medium emery cloth, all on a hand sanding block. This is _very_ tedious. The emery cloth works best, but I am concerned about removing some metal, which I want to avoid. I can see some aluminum bits on the piece of emery cloth I was using. I have two electric palm-sized sanders, one "random orbit" and the other "reciprocating" or "jitterbug". Would a medium grit sandpaper on one of the electric sanders be the best way to go? My objective is quick, easy and high quality! Thanks in advance for any ideas. B.J. Kroppe - '82 XJ6 Follow-Ups:
