Subject: Installing a Convertible Top

I'm looking for tips on installing a convertible top on my '67 Etype. The top
being installed is a black vinal one made by Robbins. It seems to fit well just
laying it over the convertible top frame.
I was planning to start at the rear and move forward. Using stainless steel
staples I'd tack it to the wood nailer, then work it forward. Next, using
contact cement, attach it to the convertible top frame behind the driver and
passengers windows, then finish by pulling it forward and gluing it on to the
convertible top frame above the windshield. I plan on warming the top up (it's
cold in the northeast US this time of year!) to 80-90 degrees F, to make it
more pliable.
Has anyone done this before, that could lend some insight on the best
technique to use? Is contact cement the best thing to use, or weather strip
adhesive, or ? What are the thoughts on staples vs the small tacks originally
used for the wood nailer ? (I think the s/s staples, although not original,
would be covered up and do a better job. Any thoughts on this if I show the
car, would anyone know, or would it matter ?) Thanks for any all advise ....
