timing for 82 XJ6 SIII - rough idle

My car idles rough at about 600 rpm.  I recently installed new plugs, 
wires, distributor cap, rotor, and poured some jet cleaner into my 
fuel tank.  The car runs great except for the rough idle and that it 
won't start on the first cranking of the starter.

I assume I need to check the timing and would appreciate it if some 
one can walk me through it. 

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to improve the starting and 
idling they would be very much appreciated.
