[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] How I love my Jag but not my speedo
I can't get away with making proclamations like this without making my friends puke, but I know you guys will understand . . . I LOVE MY JAG! She's a crimson 87 XJ6 S3 VDP with lots of chrome, including the wheels. She was parked today waiting for a ferry here in Seattle, elegantly standing on her new Pirelli P-4000's amid an ugly herd of transverse-mounted econoboxes, jellybeans and giant stationwagons they call "sport utility vehicles." The car is gorgeous and even more so when I crank her up on the highway. Do you guys have a problem with people tailing you, or slowing down so you will pass them, just to look at your Jag in motion? I like to give them a show, and just let her rip past half a dozen boringmobiles, preferably in a curve, so they can witness the unique combination of beauty and performance that epitomizes the Jaguar marque. Maybe it gives them a little thrill, maybe they think I'm an arrogant twit zooming around in a shiny gas guzzler. Who cares! All I know is that I'm not stuck in some tin can with a sewing machine for an engine lying to myself about how I don't really want a powerful, elegant car. She's beautiful, and she has a personality. Mine has a cranky speedo/transducer. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Transducer's been replaced, worked for a while, then no go. Was working intermittently, switching on with the heater, then the defroster, then finally the L/R tank switch. I did a little test -- wired into the transducer connector, scratching wire against a rasp, got response from the noise on the speedo. Figured I needed another transducer, hooked it back up. It started working....for awhile. Figured the connector is dirty, being exposed underneath, cleaned the connections last weekend, but to no avail. Next step: replace connector and transducer. Question: any of you experience the weirdness with the switches activating (or deactivating) your speedo? Stuart McDowall Spin Doctor Seattle, WA USA 87 XJ6 S3 VDP 72 MG Midget 89 Black Dodge Turbo
