Re: Winter Storage

A couple of other things that can be done to store a car for long
periods of time is to remove the wheels and clean with a detergent to
remove any oil grime. Putting the car on blocks or jack stands is a
very good idea and this would be an ideal time to take care of the
rubber. Silicones and oils break down the rubber. The plugs can be
removed and an ounce or so of oil can be poured into the cyls, to
help prevent rusting. The intake tracts should be closed off with
rags and taped over. It also wouldn't hurt a thing to stuff a rag or
two into the exhaust to keep moisture from getting in that way. I
dont know of any good way to keep the brake rotors and linings from
suffering. If stored in a clean dry place they should last a fair
amount of time. A car that is stored properly can come out quite
nicely when it's time to put the rubber back on the pavement.

Another more grim side of putting the car on jack stands and removing
the wheels is that it would make it alot harder to steal.
