[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] GM400 mistakes
I finally talked to John Kilgore about my transmission problems. He suggested a TH350 tourqe converter for the XJ-S H.E., to replace the 1750 rpm high stall (?) converter I had installed by mistake. He said that this converter would have a stall speed around 1900 rpm, but the stall speed was not important. The TH350's advantage was more low end torque and less slippage at speed. I plan to combine this change with the 2.75:1 1st gear modification. These are my plans, but I have already made one mistake on the torque converter and would like to prevent a second mistake. Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. While I have owned a Volvo P1800, an E-type, a Vette, a couple Porsches, and several Nission Z cars, this is my first automatic transmission. And I do not like it! Hopefully these modifications will bring the performance more in line with the manual shift cars I have owned. But, I really miss the engine braking (unless I am in manual shift mode). Is there a way to have engine breaking when the selecter is in drive? If so, would such a modification cause any problems in a daily driver? Michael
