Had one, wish I still had it.  It was made by Smiths and was actually
mechanical.  I had it in one of my Alpines.  Exactly the size of a smaller
Smiths guage and mounted in the hole for the clock (or whatever).  It had a
tube from it that went into the dipstick.  It was just long enough to go to
the add mark when put in in place of the dipstick.  When you pulled the knob
on the thing, it drew vacuum from the line.  Just enough that if there was
oil over the hole a small cup stayed put and the ring under the knob showed
green.  If there was no oil over the end of the rod the outer cup came back
with the knob and the ring showed red.  Darn, I wish they still made it, it
was real slick, and worked!

Tom, back to rain, not going to get "Miss Kitty" wet today.
