Recent discussions on fuel regulators have still left me confused, do they fail intermittently ? My '86 XJ-6 developed a strange, intermittent problem: it would sometimes refuse to accelerate beyond 40 mph. This would usually happen upon first starting out in the morning. At precisely 40 mph, the engine would become very rough and would start "chugging" and bucking, accompanied by some black smoke from the tailpipes. Usually I could clear the problem by releasing the accelerator for a few seconds and then depressing it again, but sometimes it would persist for several minutes... very bad if one is trying to merge with fast-moving<< I note Carl's car is an XJ6, but.... The XJ-S V12 has two fuel regulators, how do they work in relationship to each other ? And the relation to the non- return valve in the top of the pump ? The non return valve I assume maintains pressure when engine is turned off, or do the regulators maintain this ? John Goodman '89 Jaguar Sport XJR-S 6.0L '88 Range Rover '84 VW Camper Follow-Ups:
