XJ40 Fuel Flap

Hi Everyone,

I saw the posts the other day regarding a sticky or
non-functional fuel flap and was wondering if you can point me in
the right direction. I just acquired my 1988 XJ40 about a month ago
and the fuel flap has never worked properly. Because the manuals are
vague on the mechanism, I have no idea how it SHOULD work.

The unlock mechanism seems to work fine but the flap does not
pop up. Is the flap itself supposed to be spring-loaded so that when
you push down on it to release the latch it should pop completely
open? In my case, I can push down on it and the latch will release
but I then have to pry up on the flap to get it to open. There is no
spring assist on the flap at all. Should the latch mechanism cause the
door to pop up so that I could then lift it open the rest of the way
or should it open fully (to the vertical position).

        Any help is greatly appreciated.
