Tank level equalisation - answers

I finally got the levels in my 2 tanks to stay independent (XJ6-III
1986). The problem was twofold:
1. The fuel pump switchover valve didn't fully close, allowing fuel to
drip from one tank to the other. Easy to remove and clean with carb
cleaner and compressed air. The solenoid worked fine and the valve was
airtight after cleaning.
2. The return circuit has two one way solenoids, one at each tank. The
left solenoid was broken, leaving it open all the time. So when using
the right tank, return fuel was pumped back in both left and right tank,
emptying the right and filling the left tank. After fueling this would
cause an overflow in the left tank. The cheapest replacement solenoid
was again from Hal Rogers (Bossier City, LA) ($48.50).

I still haven't found how to acces the vapor separator cannisters at
each tank. I can't access it from the trunk nor from the inside. They
are hiding somewhere in the C-pillar....Anyone with suggestions ? No
mentioning of any procedures in the factory manual...
