Yes Michael, its hard for me to believe it myself.  I have now been
given a case number and a police detective is looking into it.

I will email you privately as soon as I talk to the detective and see if
they can't recover my original ECM.  If there is no chance it can be
recovered, I will let you know before you turn your shop upside down
looking for the Marelli ECM.
